The Decemberists // 12-21-01 // The Blackbird

Poster20011221BlackbirdIn December of 2001, The Decemberists were in their infancy; Their debut full length album, Castaways and Cutouts, was still half a year from being released, and the band was busy grinding away playing some of Portland’s more intimate clubs, like The Blackbird, which is no longer in operation and was located where Tony Starlight’s sits today.

Also of note is the familiar artwork you will notice on the poster for this show. Carson Ellis– who has done most of the band’s album and poster art over the years– has an unmistakable style and her images have become so instantly synonymous with the Portland group’s unique sound.
