Damian Lillard – “Soldier in the Game”

We’ve come a long ways, Blazer fans, from the days of “Rip City Rhapsody” and “Bust a Bucket” to the present, where Damian Lillard (the only Blazer left anyone knows, apparently) has just released “Soldier in the Game,” his first official track as Dame DOLLA (Different On Levels the Lord Allows).

Many in Portland and around the country are already familiar with Lillard’s 4 Bar Fridays, so it doesn’t come as a surprise that he’s released this track. I suppose the only surprise might be that he can actually rap, unlike most (all?) hooper-turned-rappers who have come before him.

The production is solid and the rhymes are on point, but it’s Dame’s vocal delivery– which is as buttery as his slashes through the lane on his way to another poster– that sets him apart.
